About Dr. Miller
Dr. Miller’s commitment to communication empowerment spans 25 plus years and has improved the lives of countless patients, as well as the over 300 novice speech-language pathologists she has trained. The daughter of first-generation educators, the value of education was instilled in her as a young person and continues to fuel her drive within her profession. It was within her household that she learned the significance of effective communication and how it could dictate the course of a person’s life and livelihood.
As a college professor, Dr. Miller founded the Neurogenic Aphasia Group affectionately referred to as “NAG”, to provide group speech therapy to Durham residents living with aphasia as the result of strokes or traumatic brain injuries. This program also provided graduate level speech-language pathology students the opportunity to be trained and educated in the area of adult neurogenic disorders.
A proven and seasoned professional, Dr. Miller returned to school in 2012 to pursue her doctorate degree often studying alongside classmates half her age and even professors younger than she. She earned this degree in 2018, while continuing her full-time position at North Carolina Central University.
Dr. Miller has training and expertise in education and clinical supervision. She also has experience counseling persons with communication disorders and mentoring young professionals.
A highly sought national and international speaker, Dr. Miller has participated in several study abroad programs to China. Dr. Miller recently spent two months in China where she created a summer program for Chinese children with Communication Disorders. She continues to teach and train young professionals across diverse backgrounds and considers it part of her life’s mission to fully contribute to the fields of education and speech pathology.
In her spare time she enjoys reading, live music, and exploring new places.
